I would entitle this series "burp"!
I find the top picture Escheresque. I can't follow the lines without going to the next one. Great shot.
I think the chain link fence and the thick grass behind all conspire to make the visual field confusing. Not an effect of compressing the scene to two dimensions either—it was just as visually confusing looking at it directly.
