Around Oakville

Oakville, Connecticut

Another brief technical note: these, like the Spring Trees series, were shot with an old lens. This time, it's a Leitz 35mm f/2 Summicron that I bought in the mid 1980s. Like the Nikkor 180, it holds up very well to the Z7II's 45.7 MP sensor. It's also extremely small and light compared to the Z prime lenses, much less the zooms.

More Early Spring Trees

Washingtron, Connecticut

I seldom write any technical notes here but I think this might be interesting. These recent tightly framed views of trees coming into bloom in early spring were made with a Nikkor * ED 180mm f/2.8 lens mounted, with an FTZII adapter, on a Nikon Z7II digital camera. I bought the lens in the early 1980s. It was an important tool for my assignment photography, but every spring I also used it to make pictures very much like these, with Nikon F3 cameras, using Kodachrome film. Granted it was a premium lens 40+ years ago, but I think it's remarkable that it stands up to strict scrutiny of a 45 MP file. Of course you can't see that in a web file 2200 pixels wide, but take my word for it, it's impressive.
