Winter Swamp

Warren, Connecticut

Ice and snow, a dark sky with more snow on the way.

  1. Looks like raising water has killed off trees and other growth. It all sleeps during the winter.

  2. It's a pretty common effect in upland wetlands around here. An area will stay dry long enough to get a decent start on new growth, then flood again deep enough to drown the trees. Aquifers and water tables run at all sorts of slant angles through the rocky glacier-distorted hills.
