Wow! Is this a Connecticut sort of thing? I live in a part of Boston that is historically Catholic, with churches, convents, priories, and schools (many in the process of being converted to other purposes) on every block, and we don't seem to have shrines as exuberant as this and some others you have posted. And then there is the Holyland park you can still see as you drive thru Waterbury on I-84...
