If you wanted to record the contents of the shop displays without "interference" from reflections, a polarizer would be useful. For my purposes though, the whole point of the work is to explore the interplay between the contents of the display and the reflections of the outside world. I suppose you could use a polarizer to selectively suppress, but not eliminate, reflections, however that strikes me more as an added complication than a likely benefit. It's tricky enough doing it straight...
