This building is a classic example of the industrial architecture throughout the Naugatuck River Valley in western CT. Most are gone completely or converted to modern use. They were built when the river corridor was a major manufacturing center. The river was big enough to provide direct mechanical power, but small enough to control easily--a perfect combination. This building is still in use and actually looks almost exactly as it did the first time I came across it about thirty years ago.
