Don, I love to work with shadows because of the way they expand the information content of a picture. Your mind's eye can "see" things outside of the frame because of their shadows. The perspective of a photograph--which is by definition limited to the single vanishing point offered by the position of the lens in the scene--expands to multiple vanishing points based on our interpretation of the information conveyed by the shadow forms.

The shadows add to the depth of the shot.
