Carl, don't if you realize it, but your photos over the past few weeks have documented the death of the service station. This is an especially good one from the 1940s or 50s?

TFG, that's a good point. Everywhere I went earlier this summer, the classic service station with gas pumps out front and a full mechanical service business with lifts and grease pits and tools for rebuilding car parts is mostly gone. The pumps now sit in front of a Convenience Store, franchised from a national chain brand. Just guessing at this one example, looks like it began as a full service station, morphed for a while into a General Store (precursor to current chain convenience stores) and now has transitioned to vacancy.
