Hard to digest what this Supreme Court decided in the last weeks. A Bavarian writer once said about a judge with excellent grades: "He is jurist, and as well of moderate comprehension". I get reminded all too often of that verdict.
Well, of course the anti-choice billboard is a lie—there's nothing like a heart, much less heartbeat, in an 18 day embryo. But that scientific reality won't stop this radical supermajority on the court from declaring it the law in spite of the facts. The clerics on the court are establishing a radical branch of catholicism as the state religion. I expect them to go for turning back recent more lenient drug laws, as well as a raft of others.
It seems that one must fear for the worst, unfortunately. I had never expected this - all Americans I spoke with were quite positive of the fact that church and state were much more separated than here in Germany.
And gerrymandering and minimizing voter rights will of course help the radicals to maintain that state.
I hope that at least the inquisition will be left in the toolchest...
