ICE OUT FOR GOOD, 1/10/26

Middletown, Connecticut

Hundreds of people assembled at the the central intersection of Washington and Main in Middletown, marching around the four corners on each pedestrian 'walk' signal for over half an hour. Then with police escort, marched several blocks south and then east to City Hall. There was music ("Four Dead in Ohio," "The Times They Are a'Changin'") and speakers including the mayor and a state senator. Another speaker slowly read the names of 32 people known to have died in ICE custody or encounter this year. Another read Amanda Gorman's new poem dedicated to Renee Nicole Good.

The mood was very different from the "No Kings" rallies last year. Somber, serious. The signs and chants were direct without the sarcasm and mockery of those protests.
