In suburban New Jersey in the 60s it was common to see a dashboard cluttered with hula dolls, fuzzy dice hanging from the mirror: cops sometimes issued citations for obstructing the driver's vision. Multiple saints and Jesus figures were said to be awarded for running over protestants...
I stand corrected ,your mention of saints reminds me that it was a plastic St. Joseph - patron saint of travelers. plastic moulds were brand new at that time I believe.

Good find Carl, I remember our family car having a plastic Jesus on the dash! This was in the early 60's.

How did that song go, "I don't care if it rains or freezes, long as I have my plastic Jesus riding on the dashboard of my car"
