Around Oakville

Oakville, Connecticut

Another brief technical note: these, like the Spring Trees series, were shot with an old lens. This time, it's a Leitz 35mm f/2 Summicron that I bought in the mid 1980s. Like the Nikkor 180, it holds up very well to the Z7II's 45.7 MP sensor. It's also extremely small and light compared to the Z prime lenses, much less the zooms.

Do you have any problem focusing it?

Focus is an issue. The first adapter I bought had a very incorrect flange depth, so inifinity focus landed at about 14-15 feet on the focus scale. That makes hyperfocal and zone/tab focusing all problematic. The next adapter I got, a Kipon, was much better. Not perfect agreement with the focus scale, but close enough so zone/tab focus will be practical for daylight shooting at f/8. For critical focus placement I need to use the zoom (magnification in the finder) feature. So street shooting with active subjects in low light would be impractical.

I wish Nikon would make a small full frame 35mm f/2 or f/2.8 with autofocus for Z-mount, along the lines of their current 40mm f/2. (Why a small 40mm and no small 35mm Nikon? Please explain!) I've wanted to try Nikon full frame for a while, but the lack of a small 35mm that autofocuses has held me back.
