More Early Spring Trees

Washingtron, Connecticut

I seldom write any technical notes here but I think this might be interesting. These recent tightly framed views of trees coming into bloom in early spring were made with a Nikkor * ED 180mm f/2.8 lens mounted, with an FTZII adapter, on a Nikon Z7II digital camera. I bought the lens in the early 1980s. It was an important tool for my assignment photography, but every spring I also used it to make pictures very much like these, with Nikon F3 cameras, using Kodachrome film. Granted it was a premium lens 40+ years ago, but I think it's remarkable that it stands up to strict scrutiny of a 45 MP file. Of course you can't see that in a web file 2200 pixels wide, but take my word for it, it's impressive.

That lens was a legend back then. I could never quite pull the trigger on spending that much on a focal length I used but rarely. I borrowed on once and it was wonderful. I’m not surprised it held up so well.

Yes, I wanted one of these for quite a while before I could afford one. Luckily I had a couple of commercial accounts where it fit right in, so I got to use it for my personal work too.
