Interesting display. That's a Northrup T38 (slightly) supersonic trainer, still in wide use. You see them as chase planes when a shuttle comes in to land, for example. I've never seen one on a pole before. Is this near the Rome airbase?

Quick search for Rome airbase didn't get me anywhere. But there's a Rome, NY, (one of two) in Essex county, which isn't far at all from Brushton.

Griffiss AFB, in Rome NY (I thought of them because many DOD research contracts are run from there) is probably not the explanation, since that Rome is west of the Adirondack park, near Oneida and Syracuse and the NY Thruway. The nearby airfield at Massena doesn't look very military. I wonder what the story is behind this memorial.

Hmm, looking at the shot again I see a small lectern sort of thing that might well have some explanation on it. I usually take a close-up snap when there's something like that, as an easy way to record the info, but I neglected to this time. So it remains a mystery for the moment.
