Come to think of it, they are longer than a typical park bench that might seat three or four people, though it was the strange color combinations from the bits of spray paint that had really caught my attention. Now I'll have to be on the lookout for ordinary vs. unusual benches...
Don, Martina's mention made me think that the typical green-painted cast iron and wood park bench is just about long enough for an average size person to stretch out on. These are indeed a good deal longer than that.
I've seen benches with armrests at both ends AND one in the middle. I bet the middle one is less about comfortable seating and more to prevent lying down.

Long benches at Long Wharf?
Or is it simply a matter of perspective that these seem extraordinary long?
Martina,

Benches have been a popular subject this week on photo blogs, including mine and they are all different. This could be a good project.
As far as length, many cities and villages are installing smaller benches to keep people from sleeping on them.
