Hmm, to local eyes I expect the pots seem quite organized, even formal, but I suppose to German eyes, perhaps not so much. ;-}

Hahaha, you might be right.

(That's what happens when there is a German expression for something and all the translations don't really fit)

i find it somewhat odd that the slice of town on the right seems to show that is where the 'front' is, and the pots are nicely arranged on the side (maybe a parking lot?).

Lyle, I had to think about it a bit to visualize the answer here. You're right, this is the side, not the front, of a corner building, and this wall is one side of the alley that runs to a parking lot at the rear.

The reason it doesn't look like an alley is that the opposite wall is missing: it's the open front area of a former gas station. The pumps are gone but the area remains open, in front of the building which is now an auto repair place with no gas.
