This works for me very well, but I have a hard time to name why...
Easiest to point to is the perspective, the stringent line of the boardwalk, but also the trees on the other side of the street and the faraway traffic lights, but probably also the emptyness of the street, where the tire traces seem to indicate that just moments before there was visible life here.

Markus, thanks, this echoes my own reaction. I marked it in the browser the minute I saw it, but then it sat there and it was only a day or two ago I finally opened it up in ACR to make (minor) adjustments and finally send a jpg to my For the Blog folder. It's a whole lot of little things, none of them flamboyant, that somehow work together. I do like the way the reflected lights in the plastic poster cover have their curve continued into the directly seen traffic lights in the distance. The big empty street seems to balance the busy opposite quadrant, though that's something I find isn't that likely to work. Anyway, I finally decided I really did like, so glad you do too.
