Carl,

Do you live in Schuylkill Couty? I grew up in Pottsville myself -- imagine my surprise when I clicked over here from TOP to find shots of Pottsville, Shenandoah, Mahoanoy City, etc!

Closer inspection of your sidebar tells me that you live in Connecticut. ::red face::

What brought you down Pottsville-way?

John, I will be having a show of my "Coal Country" pictures next fall in Scranton. Last week I made a trip down there to shoot several subjects in the Shamokin area as 7x17 inch panoramics with snow on the ground. So while in the area I also did lots of digital capture work. I find the small towns in this area really fascinating.

Wow, interesting. I'll have to try to get up for that show (I live in N. Virginia these days).

Did you have an opportunity to do any shooting in Wadesville? It's a now-deserted coal town just outside St. Clair. The coal company forced out all the residents so they could expand the strip mine, but most of the buildings are still standing.

Fascinating stuff. I did some shooting there around 2000 for some college projects; I should revisit those negatives and get some scanned in for web display.

John, thanks for that info. I have shot extensively in Centralia and will feature those pictures in the show (Centralia's evacuation was forced by an underground coal fire that no one has figured out how to extinguish--for forty years! I did not know about Wadesville but will make a point researching it.
