Dawn on the Ganges, II

Benares, India, 1969

The English spelling of the city name has changed at least three times in the past half century but I'm using the spelling current at the time I was writing and photographing for my IHP project.

Dawn on the Ganges, I

Benares, India, 1969

During the IHP group's stay in New Delhi there was a break for independent study. Some traveled up into Nepal. Three of us took a train south to Benares. The highlight of our visit was a dawn ride in a rowboat on the Ganges where we could observe the ritual bathers and the funeral pyres on the ghats.
