Working Pictures: streetphotography

New Haven, Connecticut

The largest free single day spectator event in the state of Connecticut is the New Haven St. Patrick's Day Parade. This year it was held a week early, on March 10. I've always found the activites at the assembly area of a parade a better place to find interesting pictures than the march itself. Here are some pictures made before the 1:30 PM step-off of the parade on a chilly and windy March day.

Note the small rectangular gray device, upper center right. It's an electronic pitch gauge. It takes teamwork to use it—one plays the pipes, another holds the meter at the top of a pipe at an angle that a third can see it while adjusting the pitch, turning a fitting on the barrel of the pipe. They tune bagpipes, who knew?
