Shadows

Winsted, Connecticut

Sometimes I think the nicest thing about strong sunlight is the way it casts shadows. Crisp sun delineates shapes clearly, but then shadows convey all sorts of information about shapes that aren't even in the picture.

I'm a fan of shadows for the reasons you mentioned. Looking at the previous photo on WP "Blue" If the kid on the bike had a strong shadow coming towards the viewer it would take it to another level IMO. By the way, a great article on T.O.P Carl.

Robert, thing is, you can't change one thing without changing everything. If the scene had been backlit so the cyclist's shadow came toward the camera, the building facades would also be in shadow and the sky would have been a brilliant glare of white. No way the sensor could hold detail from the trans-lit clouds to the shadowed buildings and figure.

The TOP article has been building in the back of my mind for quite a while, glad you enjoyed it.
