Kyoto, Japan, 1969
For the three or four weeks the IHP group was based in Kyoto, two of us lived with a family right downtown in a business and shopping district. The living quarters were above a ground floor business. It was easy to get out and wander the neighborhood day or night, looking for pictures. Back then, I was really startled to see adults reading what looked like comic books, now familiar as graphic novels. Real, functioning electric trolly cars on the main streets of the city were also pretty surprising.
