Scranton, Pennsylvania

So I had an opening Friday night in Scranton. It was quite wonderful that so many people came through, helped by the city-wide "first Friday" effort where every gallery in town was having an opening, but then had to compete with a major jazz festival starting at 8:00 that evening. More interesting was that people consistently began to smile, and then to laugh, as they worked their way through the thirty pictures. I guess they got it.

They sure did. Scranton's often considered a backwater town by nearby sophisticates. But they completely miss the good-natured and thoughtful appreciation of the local folks for things that are really important.
