... strange ...

Carl, the new theme looks great. I think having the larger pictures is going to be a big plus.

Martina,

Yes, it is strange. The destination of the parade is a "Christmas Village" that is open just three weeks a year (for the past 63 years now).

Ed, it's pretty much what I've been using for WPII for a while now. I think the larger front page picture may cause some trouble for people who check the blog on small hand-held devices--I don't have one so have not been able to check--but having the much more legible initial presentation seems like the right way to go.

Carl, I take your point about visitors using small screen devices, but your pictures are really best seen in the larger size. I can't tell you how many times I have clicked on a picture to see it bigger and been surprised at how much difference it makes. I think this change is definitely for the best.

Edd, OK, vote one in favor...

I also like the larger initial pictures, though otherwise I think I slightly prefer the old look--the overall presentation was a little less busy. But this is probably just status-quo bias on my part, so don't pay too much attention to me!

James, I don't disagree. Problem is working with templates instead of a from-scratch design. For example this template lets you customize the blog title for font, size, and color. But the post title can only be customized for font and size, I'm stuck with the silly blue color.

The advantage of course is that I don't have to take time out from photography to learn to do from-scratch design of the blog. Having done a lot of graphic design for print publication in past years I'm actually curious to learn more web design, but it's just not at the top of my priorities right now.

If you want to change the colour of the post title links, here's a quick hack that seems to work with your theme. In the Blogger admin panel, go to Design -> Template Designer -> Advanced -> Add CSS. In the box that appears, add the following code, where "#xxxxxx" is the hexadecimal notation for the colour you want:

h3.post-title a {
color: #xxxxxx;
}

For example, if you want your post title links to be black, use #000000.

If you want the title to have a different colour when the pointer hovers over it (as currently happens by default), also add the following code, where "#yyyyyy" is the colour you want:

h3.post-title a:hover {
color: #yyyyyy;
}
